Peter’s insistence that God shows no partiality would have been a shocking claim to this group of listeners. Up to this point, the spread of the gospel had been within Jewish groups. But here, Peter is saying that Christ came for all people, that forgiveness is for all who believe in him.
This may be a good message for us to hear in our world today too. We like to build walls, declaring who is in and who is out. Reread verses 34-35. What do you learn about God’s love? What call do you hear to change your attitude towards others? What good news do you hear for yourself?
Today, offer a prayer of blessing for someone you struggle to love (or even like!), reminding yourself that they, too, are God’s beloved.
