David had been faithfully serving King Saul and the Hebrew people for years. Now that Saul and all his sons were dead, the people turned to David as their king, pledging their loyalty to him because he had proven himself as a strong leader and mighty warrior. He was everything the people felt they needed in a king. David had qualities that God had identified and anointed when he was just a young boy, but now was the time to fully develop them.
