Paul’s Prayer

Knowing God more fully allows us to find hope in the mystery of grace.

Read Ephesians 1:15-23.

Paul’s prayer for the church at Ephesus is that the Spirit of God would fill the believers with wisdom and revelation for the sole purpose of knowing God more fully. And in that knowing, they may find hope in the mystery of grace that is made available to all who would receive it in every time and in every place. In this way, the church becomes a sanctuary for learning, for questions, for creativity, and for exploring. The church becomes a place where the body is equipped and sent out to have an impact on the world modeled on the teaching and example of Jesus.

Wisdom is experienced as the ebb and flow of a relationship with the One who creates, redeems, and sustains us; with the One who calls us into the mission field of the neighborhood, the workplace, the school, the greater community, and a world that is desperate for the same word of hope that we have received.

What has the Spirit revealed to you about God? When have you felt the fullness of God? When have you most powerfully experienced the church functioning as the body of Christ?

Today, offer a prayer for the church – both local and global – that it might live into its identity as the living, breathing body of Christ.
