Reflection of Glory

Jesus is the reflection of God’s glory and the imprint of God’s very being.

Read Hebrews 1:1-4.

In this letter, we read that prior to Jesus, the way God interacted with God’s people was through the prophets. In taking on flesh and coming among us, humankind was given direct access to God through the Son, Jesus. While the prophets could tell people about who God was and what God wanted, Jesus showed them. “He is the reflection of God’s glory and the imprint of God’s very being” (vs. 3). If you’re wondering who or what is near and dear to God’s heart, look to Jesus.

Who were the people near and dear to his heart? The poor, the outcast, those who lived under the weight of shame, those without a voice, the sick, the lonely. Do you find yourself among any of these? Whose understanding did he challenge? The religious folks whose sense of self-righteousness kept them from being tender towards others. Do you find yourself among this group from time to time?

What difference does it make in your life to know that Jesus loves you for who you are, warts and all? How does knowing this make you want to turn towards him in humility and away from whatever sin it is that holds you captive?

Offer a prayer of confession for any sin in your life that erodes your relationship with God, with others, and with yourself. Find assurance in the promise of forgiveness through Jesus Christ.
