Out with the Old

To experience love, acceptance, and belonging in this way is transformative.

Read 2 Corinthians 5:6-17.

In this passage, Paul writes about the kind of love that every human desires. Each of us longs for someone to truly know us for who we are – for the best parts of ourselves and the worst parts of ourselves and everything in between – and to embrace us anyway. To experience love, acceptance, and belonging in this way is transformative. It opens us to living out that same type of love for the people around us. It also compels us to break away from those attitudes and behaviors that disrupt relationship with God, with others, and with ourselves.

To immerse ourselves in this new life that is offered because of Christ’s unfailing, sacrificial love means that we seek to leave our old, sinful ways behind. How does the powerful, reconciling love of Christ affect the way you live and relate in the world? What is different about you because of your hope and faith in Jesus? What do you need to turn from to embrace what Christ is offering?

Today, do an honest assessment of sin in your life. Offer a prayer of confession, commit yourself to turning back to God’s will for your life, and find assurance in the forgiveness offered through Jesus’ redeeming grace.
